Although Turkey may be the most common item with regards to Christmas dinners, many other cultures celebrate with different types of food. The traditional Christmas meal in the Czech Republic consists of fried carp and potato salad while in Poland, an elaborate and ritualised meal of twelve meatless dishes are prepared.
The must-have items at many family Christmas feasts in Manado, Indonesia is Babi Putar, or spit roast pigs, and Ketoprak, a vegetarian beehoon and tofu dish doused with peanut sauce. The suckling pig, which involves the whole pig, needless to say, takes the biggest space on the table.
In Southern Italy, there is the Fish of the Seven Dishes, which of course involves many different kinds of fish. Typically eaten during Christmas Eve, this feast involves seven different seafood dishes such as baked cod, deep fried scallop, marinated eel, oyster shooters, octopus salad, stuffed baked oysters, among others.
