This coconut shredder tears coconut flesh in a flash, in yesteryear’s standard that is. Because it requires a lot of strength and is made of non-lasting material, people turn to the provision shops that have a mechanical shredder for the ready-made ones.
However, even this old school establishment is losing its relevance to the modern Singapore. Perhaps because freshly shredded coconut and the dishes it can be made into, like Foogaritti (British Raj influenced cabbage stir-fry with shredded coconut) and Malay Kueh, will soon become rare in this part of the world.
