Dirty Dancing with a Cookie

By Tris Marlis - Thursday, Apr 18, 2013

How do you dress up an ordinary cookie so that it looks more sophisticated, cute or less sinful? We don’t know what churns in the mind of Miss Olivia Lim, owner of My Lovebites, but she manages to make sinful and fatty cookies look pretty fabulous.

My Lovebites’ cookies had showed up at pop-up stores, charities, and soon will be on the theatre stage as part of their collaboration with the Base Entertainment and Lunchbox Theatrical to promote an upcoming musical, Dirty Dancing. Ms Lim created three new flavours inspired by the story of a young teenager who falls in love with a dance instructor. “Dirty Dancing” refers to mambo, a dance genre.

When asked why she took up this collaboration, she says, “I see it as a challenge, to connect two things that don’t seem relatable – Dirty Dancing and cookies. So far customers seem more excited to try the new flavors.”

“Johnny Stout” cookie is named after the male character, Johnny Castle, and it comprises dough speckled with Guinness stout almond brittle. “Sugar Baby”, inspired from Francis “Baby” Houseman, the female lead of the show, has bits of rum-soaked cherries and spiced cinnamon sugar. The third flavour, “Bite of Your Life,” is a rendition of the theme song – “Time of Your Life,” made with Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. All these flavours will be available until end of June.

As part of the promotion, My Lovebites is giving out five pairs of Dirty Dancing tickets. From now till 3rd of May, every purchase of a cookie pack entitles you a lucky draw chance. The draw will be held on the 6th of May.
