Guy Savoy’s dish from $3

By Catherine Ling - Friday, Jan 25, 2013

Marina Bay Sands kicked off its inaugural Epicurean Market today, offering a celebration of food, wine and spirits from 25 to 27 January 2013. Spanning three halls at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre. While some parts of it looks more like a trade exhibition than food carnival, the three-day culinary event does have highlights worth exploring.

Celebrity chefs will be making personal appearances and conducting masterclasses. Daniel Boulud of db Bistro Moderne will be teaching a signature quail dish. Tetsuya Wakuda of Waku Ghin will demonstrate soulful dishes from his highly refined European-Japanese cuisine. Justin Quek of Sky on 57 will host a class on how to cook the perfect fish, and Nancy Silverton, co-owner of Osteria and Pizzeria Mozza is going to conduct a workshop on making three of Mozza’s signature salads. Over 30 classes and workshops are available and it’s ‘first come, first served’ for these limited seats, so make sure you get there early!

The key attraction would likely be the Celebrity Chef Area, where you’ll get to sample signature items from the top restaurants at Marina Bay Sands, from just S$3 a dish. If you’ve always wanted to try Guy Savoy’s Artichoke and black truffle soup, layered brioche with mushrooms and truffles or CUT’s mini Kobe “sliders”, this is your chance to do so at a nominal price.

Other samplers include db Bistro Moderne’s Harissa Spiced Tuna with Moroccan Chickpea Salad, Preserved Lemon and Tzatziki; Sky on 57’s Prawn and Mango salad, Beef Noodle Soup, and Miso Cod; and Osteria Mozza’s Buricotta with Radicchio, Spiced Walnuts, Honey & Fried Rosemary and Crispy Pig‟s Trotter with Frisèe, Apple and Mustard.

One of the best sampler deals there? The S$10 grilled Japanese wagyu platter at gourmet food distributor Giorgio Ferrari, featuring supremely tender prized beef from Iwate and Saga. You will swoon.

Other MBS eateries are also participating in the gourmet event. These include Au Chocolat, Caffe B, Ku De Ta, Jin Shan, Punjab Grill and Todai. More than 20 wine distributors such as Alfa International, Wine Culture, Beam Global, Auric Pacific, Top Wines, Excaliber Trading, Monopole, Hermitage, J&D Burleigh, Enoteca, Kot Selections, Intervino, Giorgio Ferrari, Rubicon Reserve Wines, and Magma German Wines, will be present.
